About

LOST+found grew out of a desire to visually explore the deep personal connection with objects, and is inspired by the ways we come to love the objects, emotions, and memories that we collect throughout our lives. LOST+found centers around a wearer that chooses to carry her memories with her, and is invariably weighed down by them — yet emboldened by them too. Aspects like layering, redundancy, and constriction (protection)  are directly applied to each garment. The collection draws its strength from its attention to textile surface design, combining smooth silk with chunky plush sweater knits, heavy denim, and slinky metallic mesh.

From research to final touches, process became key to understanding the innate purpose of each garment. When designing the collection, I referenced my own found objects, including an old worn-out blanket and a plastic baggie full of shells and rocks unearthed at an estate sale. From the blanket, I developed an embroidery technique inspired by the Japanese sashiko technique, a hand-mending technique used to patch holes in a visually pleasing way. From the shells, I was inspired to use thousands of iridescent Mother-of-Pearl shell buttons as embellishment. Through this process, a deeper connection with the garment is forged for both designer and wearer. Gradually, through many washings, stains, and holes, these pieces become the memories we hold onto.
